Frequently asked questions
What are the exact size and file size requirements for the GATE application photo?
The photograph must be 240 pixels wide by 320 pixels high, and the file must be between 5 KB and 200 KB. Anything outside this range is likely to be rejected by the upload portal, so it is worth checking your image in a free online previewer that mirrors the official checker.
Which file format should I save my photograph in before uploading it?
Only JPEG files are accepted for the GATE application form. PNG, BMP, WEBP and PDF files will not pass validation, even if their dimensions and file size look correct.
Does the background colour of the photograph matter?
Yes. The photograph must have a plain white background, with no shadows, patterns or objects behind you. A neutral wall, a white bedsheet or a properly configured white screen all work well provided the lighting is even.
Is the resizing and compression tool really free and private?
The tool is entirely free to use and does not require an account, email or subscription. All processing happens inside your browser, so your photograph never leaves your device or gets uploaded to any server.
